Tutorial Overview

A Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI) Data Assimilation System tutorial will be offered on June 28 - 30, 2010 at the NCAR Foothills Laboratory, Boulder, Colorado.

This is the first GSI community tutorial host by NOAA/NCEP/EMC and DTC. The lecturers are invited from various GSI development/support teams including NOAA/NCEP/EMC, NASA/GMAO, NOAA/GSD, NCAR/ESRL/MMM and DTC. This tutorial will provide both lecture and hands-on sessions. An optional half day hands-on session is also provided.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of atmospheric science and numerical modeling, as well as Fortran and Unix, is required for the class. This tutorial will focus on running GSI in regional applications coupled with WRF-NMM or WRF-ARW. Some input data generated from WRF model will be used. The hands on tutorial will not provide basic WRF training; therefore all participants are encouraged to have knowledge on WRF model.

Available Spaces

Due to the constraints of physical space and computers, registration for the tutorial will be limited to 40.

Registration & Payment

The three day tutorial registration fee is: $300.00.

There will be no refunds for cancellations made after 25 May 2010. Upon registering, you will receive a confirmation that you have registered and that your acceptance is pending. Once you have been confirmed for the tutorial the credit card information that you entered into the registration will be charged. At this point another confirmation that you have been accepted to the tutorial class will be sent once payment has been received. If you choose to pay by another option, then while you have been accepted into the tutorial, you will only be confirmed once we receive your payment. If we do not receive your payment by 25 May then you will be removed from the tutorial and your spot given to someone on the waiting list. Participants on the waiting list will be notified as soon as possible regarding available space in the class. If you have any questions or are unable to register please e-mail: johnsonp@ucar.edu.
