Overview
The first annual NUOPC workshop will take place in Boulder, CO 16 to 18 August 2010. The purpose of this workshop is to bring the operational community together with the research and development community and the funding agencies to arrive at a requirements-driven, prioritized research agenda for global atmospheric ensemble prediction and post processing.
Contacts
- Barbara Brown (bgb@ucar.edu) Co-chair
- Scott Sandgathe sandgathe@apl.washington.edu Co-chair
- Pam Johnson (johnsonp@ucar.edu) Logistics
All sessions will take place at the NCAR Foothills Lab Campus, EOL Atrium.
Format
The workshop will provide an overview of Agency progress on implementing a National global ensemble, future operational agency plans for model development and ensemble prediction, and operational needs including unique Agency missions that may require ensemble solutions to be addressed by the research community. The research and development community will provide an overview of ongoing research and development relevant to ensemble prediction, post processing and metrics. Working groups will then address whether current research is meeting operational needs, identify gaps in existing research and/or areas where additional effort is required, and provide a preliminary prioritization of required research and development. Initial prioritization will be accomplished by the Delphi voting system.
