2011 Tutorial Overview
The Model Evaluation Tools (MET) Community Tutorial (June 27 and 28) will be offered at the NCAR Foothills Laboratory, Boulder, Colorado. The MET Tutorial consists of both lectures and hands-on practical sessions. The lectures are given by MET development team members, including modelers, statisticians, and software engineers. The practical sessions will provide essential skills to run MET to complete both basic and advanced verification of WRF.
MET Verification Software
For detailed information, please see the MET Verification Software webpage at http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/
Basic knowledge of atmospheric science, numerical modeling, and statistics, as well as Linux, is required for the class. This tutorial will focus on running MET to verify WRF for a few test cases. The hands on tutorial will not provide basic WRF training; therefore, all participants are encouraged to have knowledge about the WRF model. Also, only a rudimentary introduction will be given to forecast verification methods. Students are encouraged to study forecast verification in advance if they lack prior verification experience. Due to the constraints of physical space and computers, registration for the tutorial with both lecture and practical sessions will be limited to 40.
