Announcement date: April 12, 2006
The Developmental Testbed Center invites you to attend a four day WRF-NMM Tutorial, scheduled for August 8-11, 2006, in the COMET classroom at NCAR's Foothills Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado.
FOCUS: The tutorial will consist of a series of lectures on various components of the WRF-NMM modeling system and hands-on practice sessions, including:
- Overview of the WRF modeling system
- Dynamics and numerics of WRF-NMM core
- WRF physics
- Initialization for real-data cases
- How to set up and run WRF-NMM SI
- How to set up and run WRF-NMM model
- WRF Software
- Post-processing graphic tools
The tutorial will also include a lecture on the nesting capabilities of WRF-NMM that are currently under development.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Basic knowledge of atmospheric science, numerical weather prediction as well as FORTRAN and LUNIX/UNIX is required for the class.
GENERAL POLICY: The tutorial class size is limited due to physical space and workstations available for practice. The classroom where the practice sessions take place can only handle 18 people at a time. As we have 2 practical groups a day, the maximum number of people we can accommodate is 36. Once a total of 36 users have registered for the tutorial, all other registrants will be placed on a waiting list for this tutorial class.
Upon registering, you will receive a confirmation that you have registered, as well as instructions for paying the tutorial registration fee. Confirmation that you have been accepted to the tutorial class will be sent once payment has been received.
If payment has not been received by the deadline (2 weeks after receiving registration confirmation), you may be removed from the list and your spot given to someone on the waiting list. Participants on the waiting list will be notified as soon as possible regarding available space in the class.
The next WRF-NMM Tutorial is scheduled for Winter 2007.
